Q: What is a Banner session time-out?

• Effective immediately, Banner will automatically log you off after 60 minutes of inactivity on your part.

Q: Why are we implementing Banner session time-out?

We are implementing Banner session time-out to improve our protection of student and employee data. Banner session time-out is standard practice in most schools.

Q: When does the implementation become effective?

Implementation will be effective on Monday, April 28, 2008.

Q: Who will it affect?

It will affect every Banner user.

Q: What can I do to avoid being timed-out?

  • Session time-out occurs when the Banner system detects ‘inactivity’ on your session.
  • You can avoid being “timed-out” by continuing to send/extract data to and from the database.
    • Some examples are:
      1. saving data
      2. switching forms
      3. performing queries
      4. conducting a person search

Q: What happens after I am timed-out?

  • After you are timed out, Banner automatically logs you off the system.
  • Your connection and any pending changes will be lost. Save your work frequently when working with Banner.
  • You will need to reconnect and then restart your session by logging into Banner twice.
      • The first log on will officially log you off of Banner.
      • The second will reconnect you as normal.

If you want to continue working, you will have to log in twice.

This is a Banner defect that will be resolved in a future upgrade.

Q: Will Banner save my data when timed-out?

  • No! Banner does not automatically save data when you are working.
  • It is vital to save your work as often as possible!
  • If you plan to be away from your desk for a period of time, save your data, or you will lose it.

  1. This is the pop-up message you willl receive when timed out. Click on OK.
  2. You will be prompted to reconnect to Banner. Key in your username & password, click on connect.
  3. Banner will display a blank screen after you have signed on. Click on the back arrow to reconnect to Banner
    .
  4. Banner will display the logon screen, enter your username and password
